Group Leaders
8/7/20
The latest advice given to the committee by the Third Age Trust is that 'At the moment all indoor activities and indoor meetings cannot take place.'
Outdoor activities must be subject to Risk Assessments, to be completed by the Group Leader (which should be shared with the group's members). Individual members then make their own decision based on the risk assessment, Govt Covid-19 advice and their personal circumstances (not shared) and advise the Group Leader if they wish to participate. A link is provided to the Third Age Trust site, which has a template Outdoor Risk Assessment form. Please note that members will need to sign in to the Third Age Trust in order to access the form. Risk Assessment NB Without an UP TO DATE Risk Assessment, insurance is not valid.

A message from the Third Age Trust:

EXTRACT FROM A NOTICE TO COMMITTEES FROM SAM MAUGER, CHIEF EXECUTIVE U3A

Some members have been asking about whether it is time to resume some face to face meetings. It is really important that we all continue to follow the government and NHS guidance.

The U3A movement has been guided throughout this time by that advice and should continue to do so – for the safety and wellbeing of all our members.

We have been advised by our insurers that this is crucial from a public liability insurance perspective.

A Note from our Insurers - 20/05/20

All U3A activities should have an appropriate risk assessment / checklist to ensure they are safe for U3A members to participate in. Government input about Covid19 is central to any risk assessment and given the advice remains “stay at home as much as possible” and “limit contact with other people” it follows that face-to-face U3A activity should not be undertaken at present. The government reasons for leaving home remain very limited and do not include for leisure activities such as provided by the U3A.

POSSIBLE NEW GROUPS

PUBLIC SPEAKING
Is there interest in starting a new group on How to be a Public Speaker? Many of you will have had interesting careers, experiences, hobbies etc, or have passionate ideas you wish to share with others. However, do you have the skills and confidence to share them with others? A new group is proposed (possibly only for a short period) to help you to achieve those skills and enhance your confidence to present them in a professional and satisfying way.

French for Beginners
Learning French from the beginning, for people who have no, or very little, knowledge of French. The group is likely to start on Friday mornings, about 10am. We will concentrate our efforts on talking and understanding, in everyday situations like booking a hotel room, eating out, shopping, etc. There will be some homework in order to ensure positive progress.

You will find a list of current groups below. Click on the group name for more details and look out for the blue envelope icon at the top right of each group's page to contact the Group Leader.

If you want to know what happens on particular days, to fit around your current commitments, see the table at the base of this page.

Not one to your taste? Consider starting a new one!! Any member may organise a group of members, with the Group Liaison Officer's help and support, to enjoy any legal activity under the U3A umbrella. A Group Leader does not need to be an expert - any experts in the group can enjoy sharing their knowledge with the group, or you can all learn together. More information here: Start a new group

Accessibility All rented venues should have good disabled access and toilet facilities, and Group Leaders aim to ensure that those with disabilities are catered for, should they wish to join a group.

When contacting a group leader with a view to joining a group, please remember to let the group leader know if you have any disabilities which may impact on your attendance or on your participation in the group. Group leaders will make every effort to address any issues such as access, safety, etc.
