Group Leader Richard Parsons
This group visits the Kent nature reserves (Dungeness RSPB, Rye Harbour, Winchelsea and Kent Wildlife Trust) and places like Oare Marshes, Riverside Country Park at Gillingham and local woods depending on the time of the year and what birds are about. We could see Little Terns, Sandwich Tern with its ragged crest, Med Gulls, black-backed Gulls, Black-Headed Gulls, Cormorants, Shell Ducks, Teal, Coots, Redshanks, Ringed Plovers, Curlews, Turnstones, Lapwings, Whimbrel, Little Egrets, Oystercatchers and other waders. Of the smaller birds we might see the Wheatear, Reed Warbler, Dunnock, Linnet, Skylark and many more familiar garden birds.
We meet on the fourth Tuesday of the month.
During the Covid-19 emergency, members have used their individual exercise time to watch birds in the local woods, fields and moors, maintaining contact by email and sharing their sightings. Now, they are resuming visits to local birding sites for fresh air, learning - and fun - in line with the Covid rules.
