"Making a Better World" 2021

Steps Toward a Sustainable Future

Our 2021 study morning, held on-line by Zoom, followed hard on the heels of COP26, the UN Climate Change Conference in Glasgow. As individuals, it is easy to feel helpless in the face of global challenges. But there are reasons to be hopeful.

University of Geneva’s Professor François Grey explored the history of multilateral efforts to address global problems such as the ozone hole and CO2 emissions. He went on to explain the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and what individuals can do to work towards a sustainable future. Ross Newham, of the East Malling Horticultural Research Centre, delved into new approaches to horticulture, biological and social sciences that could tackle some of the biggest threats.
