Tendring District

AGM Report Oct 2121

Many thanks to those who attended the AGM (25) and those who sent their votes
by post or email (122). Together they amounted to well over our quorum number
but still only represented 32% of the membership which was a little disappointing.
The AGM went smoothly, reports being received and approved and a new
Committee elected . We are still very short on Committee members
and very heavily weighted towards Frinton / Walton.
In the next part of the AGM there was time for questions and discussion before
the vote on the Resolution.
The result of the vote was as
follows:
email post attend total
For 36 54 19 109
Against 15 6 4 25
Abstain 3 8 2 13
TOTAL 54 68 25 147

Phyllis Deer (as newly elected Chairman) said:
Thank you for your considerations and your vote for the resolution. We hope you will all see this
as an opportunity for growth and development in each part of the Tendring District; Dovercourt
and Brightlingsea already have their own u3as.
This move will support one of the objectives of both the Third Age Trust and of our own
Constitution – to spread to the wider public the significant benefits of the u3a movement.
Now the hard work begins - negotiations on matters of group attendance, finance, social events,
communications with members and much much more.
You will remember that many on the current committee are from the Frinton and Walton area so
this will require most of a new committee on the Clacton Holland side. The current committee will
give every support to the new committee over the next 18 months when it is likely the processes
will be completed to enable the split. If a new committee has not come forward Tendring u3a will
cease. You will all be able to be members of Frinton and Walton u3a but the emphasis will be
different.
Many of the current members have served for a number of years and should be allowed to stand
down, indeed constitutionally they should stand down.. We will of course keep some continuity in
the newer members but we need volunteers for the Frinton/Walton u3a as well to offer their
services to the committee. Again, thank you for your votes. Be assured that your committee will
continue to work hard for your interests
