Teignmouth & District

ABOUT US

Teignmouth & District u3a was formed on 1 October 2019 and by March 2023 had grown to 420 members. We are a member of the Third Age Trust which is the representative body for u3as in the UK, founded in 1982.

We have around 50 Interest Groups covering everything from social to exercise to learning together - see Groups page for details.

Each month we have an Open General Meeting, with guest speaker, and a Members' Information and Coffee Morning - see Events page for full details.

To join us, no qualifications are necessary and there is no age limit - just a wish to continue learning, to meet new friends and to share your knowledge and time with other members.

The Third Age is defined by a time in your life when you are no longer in full time employment or raising a family. u3a members are typically retired or semi-retired, using some of their leisure time to share their expertise, talents and enthusiasm with like-minded people, and perhaps develop new interests. There is no curriculum, no entry qualifications, no examinations and no certificates

The u3a movement encourages self-learning - the ethos is "by the members, for the members" - exploring new ideas, sharing skills and knowledge in a friendly, inclusive environment. It's learning for fun, not with the aim of gaining qualifications. Becoming a member of u3a is the ideal way to meet new people, make new friends and start a whole new learning and social life in retirement
