Seven would-be writers meet at a member’s home every two weeks on a Tuesday afternoon. The session consists of innovative writing exercises, sharing own work, discussion over coffee and biscuits and a non compulsory assignment for the next session.
An atmosphere of encouragement and support prevails in order that everyone can feel confident and secure in what they present. Discussion is always positive.
So far we have concentrated mostly on short pieces of fiction. More recently two of the members have led sessions on poetry and science fiction. For some of us these were great leaps into the unknown.
The writing exercises tend to be outcome specific – for example descriptive writing, acrostic poems, exercises based on colours, creation of atmosphere etc, but the assignments can be taken in any direction the member wishes. We are often astounded at the results a one word stimulus can produce.
Very often what may seem to be a group intent on exercising the intellect becomes one finding life very funny indeed.
This group is full at the moment but there may well be an opportunity to form a second group if enough members are interested.
