NOTICE TO MEMBERS - AGM Thursday June 28
The 2018 Annual General Meeting of Tarporley & District U3A will be held on THURSDAY 28th June at TARPORLEY COMMUNITY CENTRE at 10.30 a.m. At this meeting, the current Executive Committee must retire and a new Executive Committee be elected by the membership. (Existing members may stand for re-election subject to limits defined in the constitution). The AGM will be followed immediately by the usual Monthly Meeting.
Tarporley & District U3A now has a membership of 404 and the well-attended Monthly Meetings and trips and the increasing number of Interest Groups show how popular it has become since its inception in 2013. In order for this success to continue, the U3A needs a strong effective Executive Committee of people with varied skills, interests and attributes.
There is a Committee Meeting once a month. By sharing the work load no one should be overburdened with tasks or responsibilities. Up to 12 Committee Members can be elected – 4 Officers - Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Vice Chair, and up to 8 non-officer posts*. Non-officer roles will be agreed at the first meeting of the new committee. No special skills are required except a desire to help run and develop our U3A. Whilst previous committee experience is helpful, it is by no means essential. Enthusiasm and a willingness to get involved are just as important. The only restriction is that you cannot already be a member of another U3A's Executive Committee.
Committee Members have the opportunity to influence the development and future success of Tarporley & District U3A and to be at the heart of this organisation which is enhancing the lives of retired and semi-retired people in Tarporley and the surrounding area. It's a great way to meet new people and to feel involved with, and contribute to, the local community.
PLEASE CONSIDER BECOMING A COMMITTEE MEMBER. A form is attached for you to ask someone to nominate you or for you to nominate someone else (with their consent). Please note that nomination forms need to indicate whether the proposal is for (a) Chairman, (b) other Officer roles or (c) non Officer. Please also note that every nominee must be proposed and seconded by two people NOT on the current committee. NOMINATIONS MUST BE RECEIVED BY 31st MAY 2018. If you wish to stand for election, but do not know anyone to propose or second you, don't worry; let us know that you are keen to participate and we will try to help you find a nominator and seconder.
Remember - our U3A will not survive without a strong Executive Committee. You could make all the difference! No Committee means no more trips, no meetings, no interest groups, no U3A.
The AGM is also an opportunity for members to raise issues that they feel could help the U3A to develop.
