November Speaker - Peter Derek Poulson
Our speaker is Derek Poulson with his talk "It's not what you say — It's the way that you say it". Derek wanted to be an actor from the age of 15 but that was frowned upon. He went to a 'posh' school after passing the 11 Plus and his Yorkshire accent was looked down upon as at that time BBC English was considered the way forward. A job he took after school was a Presentation Consultant for training pilots to talk calmly and concisely (you always trust them when they speak nicely) but he was always true to his Yorkshire roots.
He will take us on a tour of the British Isles explaining where language originated in the different parts of the U.K. and how this influences how we speak today. He will demonstrate the dialect from many regions along with the mannerisms we associate with each one.
