We now have two groups – one for beginners and one of `old faithfuls' – both enjoying making music together with the greater priority being the fun side of it. We felt confident enough to think of leading some singing at a Care Home in Overton but holidays disrupted our plans so now we are aiming to lead a carol singing session.
We have three people who play a tenor recorder which is pitched an octave lower than the descants and this enables us to tackle some part playing. Fingering for both instruments is the same but larger hands, or fingers that are able to stretch wider, are needed for the larger instrument. So, the descants outnumber the tenors! It would be great if any other U3A members felt inclined to have a go at playing a treble recorder which is medium sized. Tuition would be offered within a separate group to start, with the idea and hope of ultimately joining the whole group and being able to tackle more varied pieces.
