After contacting Sir George Young in May and receiving our tour date by return, our long awaited trip to the Houses of Parliament took place on 26th November.
Everyone looked forward to the tour with great anticipation, and we were not disappointed.
On arrival we went through security and then entered the very impressive Westminster Hall. Immediately we were struck by the history of the building
where kings and queens had held court for many centuries and were Charles1 had heard of his fate
From here we visited St. Stephan’s Hall which forms part of the grand entrance to
the Palace of Westminster. Visitors can’t help but be overawed by the scene.
We passed through the Central Lobby which in reality is much smaller than the impression given by television. From here we visited the House of Lords where on entering you made one of two sounds, a little gasp, or ” wow”; beautiful stained glass windows, paintings adorning the walls and of course the Queen’s throne area is just beautiful and gives you a sense of pride.
The House of Commons, not so ornate but very impressive nonetheless because
of the “very important business” conducted in this Chamber.
We all came away having had a thoroughly enjoyable day and full of admiration
for “The Mother of Parliaments”
