Tadcaster & Villages

Members Meetings - Relaunch

We relaunched Tadcaster & Villages u3a on Monday, 20th September 2021. It was our first face to face meeting since lockdown; the meeting started at 14.15 at the Barn.

The meeting was a great success with 53 members attending and four new members joining. Visitors to the meeting also took membership forms away with them to complete later.

The Chair, John Fielden, opened the meeting by welcoming everyone. An Annual General Meeting (AGM)was then held at which members were asked to agree and approve the changes to the Model Constitution. 53 members voted for the changes, which fulfilled the quorum requirements set out in the Model Constitution. Having had a successful vote from the members the Chair closed the AGM and opened the members meeting.

Alison, who runs Selby Sweet Shop, was the Speaker for the meeting. She gave an interesting and amusing talk about sweets from the past and in particular the history of liquorice and how it was introduced to this country. 'Tasters' of assorted sweets were handed round to the delight of the members and a good selection of these were available for purchase at the end of Alison's talk.

Following the Speaker, the members enjoyed a Quiz prepared by Jan the group leader and a box of chocolates was awarded to the winner.

It was very satisfying to see how animated the members were at being reunited and their smiles and laughter said it all, proving these meeting very worthwhile and certainly a benefit for bringing people of our community together.

Most of the u3a activity groups have resumed their meetings and the rest are due to start shortly.

The u3a Coffee mornings have been a great success too and the next one is on Thursday, 4th November at the Barn starting at 10.30am.

We, the Committee, have carried out a Covid risk assessment and members and non-members were asked to take all reasonable precautions and to be aware of their own Covid status.
