Tadcaster & Villages

u3a Day 2021

TADCASTER & VLLAGES CELEBRATED NATIONAL U3A DAY ON WEDNESDAY, 2nd JUNE 2021

The u3a Day was held at the Barn with the event starting at 11am and finish at 4pm.

The Mayor of Tadcaster & Town Council, Steve Cobb, was invited to cut the ribbon and declare the event open at 11am, which was carried out with The Mayor's usual aplomb!

Group Leaders displayed their activities on tables covered in the u3a logo colours of blue and yellow, and each table looked splendid. The tables were set out in horseshoe style for visitors' ease for walking and viewing the displays. Gazebos had been provided to shield the members and visitors from the sun and being a very hot day the cover was greatly appreciated.

There was a steady footfall of visitors including a local author, and a Social Prescribing Link Worker who brought along two people interested in the activities which they could join.

It was encouraging so see so many people interested in u3a and in the group activities. Refreshments were available for most of the day which included very tasty homemade cakes provided by some of our members and served by one of our lovely members too.

Members and visitors alike took part in a Quiz set by Jan Burg, group leader for the Quiz and Social group. The winning quiz papers were put in for a Draw, that took place late afternoon and a box of chocolates were handed to the winner by the Chair, John Fielden.
The winner was delighted and remarked that it was the first prize she had ever one.

The Day was a great success and Tadcaster & Villages u3a Committee are delighted to say that 13 people had signed up for membership on the day.

Tadcaster & Villages u3a Committee convey their thanks to the Tadcaster Town Council Mayor, Steve Cobb, and to all those people who came along and supported the u3a Day Celebrations.

We also had a volunteer step forward and offer to set up a new activity, namely a 'Flower Arranging Group. You will find further details on this group on the Group tab on the Home page.

What a successful and rewarding day and thanks to our members and volunteers who worked very hard to make the day interesting and pleasant for our visitors.
