Off to a Flyer at Fens Falconry

We’re fortunate to have this super bird of prey centre so close to us, in Wisbech St Mary. They open their gates wide most bank holidays, to entertain the community with flying displays and give visitors the opportunity to get close to and handle these beautiful birds. This year, we also had the pleasure of medieval jousting, archery, local stalls, and plentiful food and drink, including a ‘gin wagon’!

The August bank holiday open day was gloriously sunny. Yes, very un-British! A number of us in the bird watching group took advantage of this, and spent a relaxed day in the company of the stunning birds that have found a home, temporary or permanent, at this well-run raptor centre.

It’s always a privilege to be this close to wild creatures, but it’s even better to see them in unconfined action, and to enjoy their power, beauty and supreme flying skills. Awesome! (as somebody much younger than me might say). The gin wasn’t bad, either.
