Table tennis, ping-pong, whiff-whaff, or “gossima”? Call it what you will, the name of the game is simple good fun, and great exercise for body and mind!
As soon as eight members had signed-up, we felt we had the basis for a group, and definitely enough enthusiasm to start playing. Now, with just two sessions under our belts, we already know we’re on to a winner!
Abilities range from the absolute beginner who has never played before (that would be me!) to the experienced campaigner wanting to recapture the thrill of competition (that would be Roger!) with all levels in between. As the newest convert, and probably the least fit, I can honestly say that any fears of humiliation have been groundless. In fact, the more experienced among us have so generously shared their expertise, that skills are already improving across the board - and across the net. And that does include me!
We meet twice monthly at the Peele Centre in Long Sutton, where we’ve found the staff to be helpful and the facilities just what we need. For a £2 per person contribution, we have use of up to four tables. The centre also provides bats and balls, which is perfect for those who just want to give table tennis a try without having to pay out for equipment.
Please do consider joining us, and see why we’re having such a good time. By all means come along for a taster session to find out if this is something you’d like to pursue. If you’re anything like us, you’ll end the session with a smile on your face, looking forward to the next time!
