Sutton Bridge

Interest Groups

Interest Groups are the lifeblood of U3A Sutton Bridge and reflect the knowledge, skills and expertise of our members.

Over the years since the start of U3A Sutton Bridge there has been a flourish of groups starting. The range of groups which function depends on the members who have may have a skill or interest which they would enjoy sharing with others, or simply a desire to learn something new.

It is in the groups that friendships are forged as members follow their shared interests. Leaders of groups are not necessarily experts - enthusiasm is more important, as the direction taken is generated by the group.

It is easy to join a U3A Sutton Bridge group, just come along to one of our regular monthly General Meetings, details of which are on the Welcome page and you can enrol there and then.

Larger groups meet in a hired room, smaller groups in members' homes.

Most groups meet during the day.

Visitors are not permitted to enrol in any Interest Group or to attend an Interest Group Meeting until the membership fee is paid and a membership number issued.

We are always seeking to expand the range of groups which we offer. If you have a particular interest and think you might like to form a group, please discuss it with the Group Coordinators or any member of the committee.

Currently Proposed Groups

Cake group
Do you enjoy baking and eating the results? Would you like to join a U3A group which will meet regularly in members’ homes for coffee and cake in the morning, or tea and cake in the afternoon, with the aim of learning new recipes and baking skills? If so, this could be just the group for you!
Five members have signed up so far. A Group Leader is required.

Theatre Trips
The idea is to visit theatres within easy reach of Sutton Bridge and Long Sutton, for both professional and amateur productions. The aim would be to see a production each month, with the occasional coffee/tea morning to discuss what has been seen. Group bookings might attract reduced ticket prices, and lift-sharing will make transport easier. Norman Redican will be happy to act as Group Leader to get this group off the ground. Once established, it's hoped that another group member will take over.

Italian
Ten members have signed up, with Jim Stalley as Group Leader. This group will be starting very soon.

Astronomy
Five members have signed up. A Group Leader is required.

Let's Make Some Music
Two members have signed up, with Clifford Wood as Group Leader.

Anyone can lead a group. No experience is required, just enthusiasm. The Interest Group Coordinators will give you all the help you need, so please come forward and talk to us about it. You can make a difference by helping to get a new group off the ground, and we want you to have fun doing it!

If you are interested in joining any of these groups contact the Group Coordinators, Lesley Bassett or Maureen Sinclair-Currie.
Please ensure you know your Membership Number when joining groups.

A polite request - If you are a member of a group, but find you are unable to attend one of the meetings, or if you no longer wish to be part of that particular group, PLEASE inform your Group Leader as soon as possible.
