We call ourselves the Bridge Circle because we are less formal and friendlier than a “club”.
The group meets weekly for a sociable game of duplicate bridge, played to EBU rules. You need to arrive at least 5 minutes early in order that play can start promptly. Although no lessons are given players can call for assistance and guidance should they need it.
We usually play a shorter session of 14-18 boards(hands of cards)......we typically have 10-12 tables.
Players of any standard can be sure of a warm welcome if they wish to join us. You do not need a partner as one can always be found for you, but you must be able to play. The game takes about 2 years to learn to a competitive standard so you cannot just turn up and play as you could in other card games.
Are you beginning Bridge?
We are currently unable to offer a beginners course for those wishing to try and play the game due to a shortage of tutors and organisers but when circumstances change members will be advised by notice in the Sage.
One of our members has taken on the role of tutor and her “bridge four” are almost ready to join the circle. There is a continuous learning plan in place and another “four” are following on close behind. Anybody wishing to learn the game needs to register an interest. As soon as we have a new “four” we can organise a date for a new beginners 10-12 week course.
