Sussex U3A Network

Welcome to SUN

Welcome to Sussex U3A Network's website.

The Sussex u3a Network (SUN) is a collaboration between the u3as in East and West Sussex, including Brighton & Hove.

U3as exist for the benefit of those, no longer in full time employment, who wish to learn and keep active. No learning qualifications are required, as members share their knowledge and experience whilst participating in a wide range of educational, creative and leisure activities. Each u3a has its own programme of activities which may comprise monthly meetings with external speakers, special interest groups, outings to places of interest and social events.

Due to the recent Covid restrictions, our activities, like those of our member u3as, have been severely curtailed. We will continue to use Zoom to contact representatives to pass on information from national office and share new ideas.
Online meetings and lectures are available to all u3a members during this time. Please check our Events page and online events on the national (TAT) website, who also have free online tutorials for using Zoom available.

SUN organises additional activities which may be beyond the resources of individual u3as or which are best provided on a collaborative basis:

  • A programme of very popular study days (currently Study Mornings)
  • Workshops led by members
  • Projects & festivals celebrating work undertaken by various u3a interest groups
  • Sharing of experience and ideas between u3as
  • Assistance to new U3As
  • Advice on using MOOCs (massive open online courses) and online resources.
  • A Speakers List for u3as
  • A monthly SUN Update email. Current copies link is below.

U3a members can also attend the very popular annual Summer School at the University of Chichester usually held in June. This will resume next year in 2021. Details will be on the Events page. There are other regional summer schools, conferences, plus workshops for u3a organisers and interest group leaders.

Our U3As page lists our member Sussex u3as, with their websites links. Our Study Days explains how they are organised and you can book places on them via the Events page. This Workshops link does the same for the workshops listed on the Events page. Contact allows you to send a message to our organising committee.
NB Avoid other googling other websites by entering sun u3a not SUN.
