Gardening

Group members meet on the second Wednesday of each month. Meetings will take place in the George Woods room of the Old School from 2.00pm until 3.00pm. If, as the growing weather improves, an hour is too short, the meetings will extend to two hours.

Meetings may well have (a) contributions from group members on selected topics, (b) discussions and (c) talks from outside speakers. Other possibilities for the meetings are activities such as seed swaps and plant swaps. It may also be that bulk buying from suppliers could be undertaken with the intention of sharing the purchases amongst members. Often cheap prices are only available if there is a minimum purchase, a quantity that is too great for one gardener but could well be bought if a number of gardeners club together.

In addition to meetings in the Old School, there is the possibility of weekday visits to (a) gardens, (b) garden centres and (c) flower shows. These would, obviously, take more time than the one or two hours involved in normal meetings. It would, of course, be possible for other U3A members who are not in the gardening group to join in on these trips and they would be advertised to the general membership. As a U3A group it would be possible to take advantage of lower prices and smaller crowds by visiting on weekdays rather than weekends.
