Our Psychology sessions started last April as a small group, meeting in one another's houses. By consensus we agreed to meet in the mornings of the third Thursday of each month. Each session begins at 10 am and finishes at midday. Anyone who feels able, offers to be host/ess for the following month.
To date we have studied:
A brief history of psychology, prominent psychologists in its development. The theories and paradigms within the subject.
How humans develop over the course of their lives and how the brain functions.
We read the book "Why Love Matters" by Sue Gerhardt to understand brain development from birth and looked at areas such as Attachment Theory and Maternal Deprivation.
Since the Summer break we have discussed subject areas that particularly interest people; the first choice for the September session was Psychometric Testing.
This month we shall be investigating the Psychology of Age-ing and Retirement. Other topics that have been requested are:
We have currently 10 members in the group and a short waiting list.
