Stourbridge

Canals

The Canal Group generally meets on the 3rd Monday of each month from 10.00 until about 12.00. However, because a lot of canal-based events take place on summer weekends, we occasionally attend one of these events in lieu of a Monday meeting.

The current Group leader is Brenda Stevenson and she is the person to contact if you have any questions or suggestions about the programme. Please use the email button on the right.

Our group is helping The Canal and River Trust by doing litter picks to help reduce the plastic and waste going into the inland waterways. Our 3rd Litter pick will be on Monday 7th September for details send me a message please.

Our first Zoom meeting 15th June It went ok- Phew! Birmingham Urban Safari and Visitors to the Stourbridge Canal During Lockdown
Next step will be very careful out door meetings complying with the Government and U3A guidelines.

July 20th Meeting was held in groups of 6. We started at Leasowes and walked 'The Missing Link' of the Dudley no2 Canal (Lapal)
We have studied and walked sections of this Canal -also visiting the Selly Oak/California section.

On discussion the Members felt the train was safe to use for the next meeting so it was as detailed -the Stratford on Avon trip.
Well what a super day out! Thank you to Anthony for his organisation, a really well planned and enjoyable day.
We walked from Wilmcote to Stratford basin (known as Bancroft Basin) and the River Avon. The sun came out for our lunch and a good time was had.

21st September
We had a great meeing today at Bratch. There were 20 of us - this is permitted because we are exempt from the rule of 6- we walked in small groups and kept our social distance, I also explained to people we met why there were so many of us, we didn't want any misunderstanding with the general public. I am sure it did us all good in the fresh air and sunshine learning new things and taking exercise in a safe way.
