The U3A Art Group meet on the third Thursday of each month, However if the group is unable to meet for some reason, I will do my best to notify every one. The sessions start from 2-4pm at the Norton Centre, Glebe Lane just off South Road. Anyone taking part in the sessions must be a member of the U3A. £1 is required for each group meeting, for a beginner or taster session £2 is required. Refreshments are included.
Our members bring their own materials and use the medium of their choice. For example, some people may prefer watercolours where others choose acrylic or pastel, It is entirely up to each individual, guidance is given where required.
The aim of the group: to foster friendly interaction with other like minded people who wish to explore and share their artistic ideas.
As group leader, I hope to enable people to enjoy, gain confidence and use different mediums. So far the group has explored perspective, colour, still-life, shade and light. Occasionally, we have organised outings to Mary Steven's Park, the Red Cone and the canal to gain some experience in landscape painting, these outings have proved not only challenging but also very enjoyable.
We have already held two exhibitions of our work at the Ruskin Centre, plus, periodically we show our work at the monthly U3A General Meetings.
Unlike the Language, history or other groups where participation is required strictly on attending each meeting, the Art Group is more flexible to peoples available time. However, too many absences can lead to missing out on group activity and could block some one else who may wish to join the group.
