The group meets on the first Wednesday of the month between 2.00 and 4.00 pm, at the home of the organiser, Dominic Faux. He can be contacted by e-mail
Members take it in turn to choose the music for the group to hear; we like to approach each meeting with a theme. We can also discuss approaches to the music chosen include background research, and analysis and evaluation of different interpretations.
Formats include CDs, LPs, MP3/MP4 files and Youtube links.
January's meeting was on the 15th at my house. The theme was any composer whose name begins with "R". There was plenty of room for great music there, with well known names including Ravel, Rimsky-Korsakov and Rachmaninoff, and more obscure could include Respighi, Rameau and Rautavaara.
The choice included Rachmaninoff (2nd Piano Concerto), Ravel's Bolero and String Quartet, Respighi's Fountains of Rome and Ancient Airs and Dances, Rimsky-Korsakov's Sheherezade, Rossini's String Sonata No. 12 (written when he was 12!), Rutter's Nativity Carol and Rautavaara's Cantus Arcticus (1st Movement - the Bog).
There will be no February meeting as I shall be away, but March's meeting will be on Wednesday 4th and is on the theme of Animals.
April's meeting is on the 1st and is on the theme of Eastern Europe (excluding Germany and Russia).
