The Singing for Pleasure group is led by Angela Bennett and meets on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month at St. Joseph’s church hall between 10 a.m. and 12 noon.
The group sings a wide variety of pieces of music – light hearted warm-ups activities, short amusing songs and rounds as well as songs from musicals, gospel music, folk songs from round the world, pop songs from the 1960s and 1970s and much more.
We sing songs in unison as well as up to four parts – soprano, alto, tenor and bass. There is no need to read music (most of us don’t) but you will learn a lot about how to sing from a music score.
From time to time we also perform our music to an audience at concerts.
Needless to say we have a coffee break where there is a chance to have a chat and make friends.
The group has about 70 members including about 25 men – an unusually large number for choirs but more men are always welcome of course!
