German Course for Beginners Part Two

This group meets every two weeks on Wednesdays from 13:00 to 15:00 in the Friends Meeting House in Great Ayton.

For our session on 18th March, we will read and complete exercises in the Coursebook. Seiten 104, 105 und 106 Übungen 25, 26 und 28
If you have time, could you listen to the remaining recordings of Lektion sechs over the next couple of weeks which cover Verabredungen.
We will continue with Chapter vier, 'Café in Berlin'.

We studied the separable verbs on Page 101.

We listened to the recording (this is on disc 1 track 54) and completed the exercise in pairs.
Homework is , prepare chapter 3 Cafe in Berlin and also have some questions prepared to ask the Group members on this chapter.

Alan Sidgewick, the Leader for the Advanced German Group will be attending our next session on March 4th and prior to this, could you prepare a short introduction about yourself. A few basic facts but also something interesting about you!

To go with the recordings there is also a guide to each session as a pdf. The text for each session is on the pdf but the numbering does not always correspond exactly with the numbering of the tracks.

For those who were not able to attend the session on 8th January we covered Seite 92 , 93, 94 and completed Übungen 1,2,3,4,5
The session on 22nd January will probably start with Übung 6 on Seite 94 as a revision exercise and then Übung 7 before going on to Die Uhrzeit on Seite 96.
We also had an discussion about future sessions and it is likely that from February exercises from the Coursebook will take place up until the tea break and then afterwards we will look at 'Cafe in Berlin', possibly some games and music.
Also maybe spend some time speaking solely in German

Write a paragraph on the activities that you do every week, using the words on pages 86 and 87 in the Coursebook
Activity Book, Pages 46 and 47 Übungen 1 and 2
Identify and learn the new words that we used in the little German booklet, 'Mein Bordbuch' for a vocabulary test at the beginning of the next class.
Here is a really useful link to an English/ German dictionary which has excellent pronunciations.

Could you read through this text and answer the questions in Übung 16. It's quite a useful exercise, highlighting some of the basic grammar and vocabulary we covered last Wednesday.
On the 16th October, we will be starting on Lektion fünf: ordering food and drink in a cafe, food shopping on Pages 74 onwards.
We will also be focussing on the Nominative and Accusative cases.

All sessions take place from 1pm till 3pm
Frauke has given us quite a bit of revision for the next 7 weeks, reminding ourselves of what we have covered in the first Four Lessons of the Wilkommen Coursebook.
At our next Group session, we will go over some of the basics in grammar and conversations in these Lektionen such as numbers, alphabet, forming questions, verb endings in the present tense and plural forms of nouns, personal pronouns and possessives. Also it is worth listening to the CDs and DVDs.
Hopefully it's not too daunting a task but we don't have to be too perfect!!
We will start on Lektion 5 the following week
