Stokesley & District

Current Affairs

This group meets on the 4th Friday of each month, between 14.00 and 16.00 in Stokesley Community Care Centre.

The agreed format for this new group is that there is a roster of people who would like to chair the group each month. The chair for that month will choose the subject, which does not necessarily have to be the burning issue of the week: it could be any ongoing world, national or local event. He/she should notify me Carolyn Kitching a few days prior to the meeting so that I can inform group members of the topic for discussion.

This type of discussion forum obviously relies on input from members, but it is important that at the first meeting we lay down the rules of debate to ensure that everyone's opinions are heard, whether or not we agree with them! There should only be one speaker at a time, and they should always speak through the chair. National U3A subject advice clearly states that, in this type of debating group, the chairman's word is final!

Our next meeting will be FRIDAY 24 JANUARY 2020, when Arthur Gough will look at the question of the current housing situation.
