Contact Group Leader Jean Spenceley
The iPad Group meets on the 2nd Monday of each month (except for bank holidays) from 1:30 to 3:30 pm in the Community Care Centre (C.C.C.), above the Stokesley library.
New members are welcome to join us. All you need to do to begin with is to contact me using the link (top right of this first page on a PC or scroll down completely to the bottom on an iPad), where you will find 'Click to send a message!'.
The broad aim of the iPad Group (an amalgamation of the two groups previously known as the iPad Beginners’ Group and the iPad Advanced Group) is to help members achieve their personal goals for their iPad and tailor their own iPads to their personal needs.
Initially, some people may simply want to know how to switch their iPad on and off or put it into so-called ‘Sleep’ mode. Explaining some of the jargon surrounding the iPad could be next. Initial set up of the iPad can be covered at this stage or later.
Next could be showing how to use it to send and receive emails. Browsing the web may come next (for such things as viewing the news and/or newspaper websites, visiting YouTube, Facebook or Twitter and the like, as well as carrying out web searches).
Speaking to other Apple device owners around the world “face-to-face” using the FaceTime app could be next, including a comparison with Skype, if required.
Some of the above can be carried out during half hour (approximately) presentations to the full group at the beginning of each session. However, the power of the group comes from our one-to-one help period in the remaining one to one and a half hours of each session. This latter overcomes potential problems of, for example, shyness deterring people from asking questions in “open court”.
No matter what level of competence you have reached in using the iPad, we want to help you consolidate and improve your level of learning.
This first page of the iPad part of the Stokesley U3A website will remain largely unchanged. The second page or link, 'Notes from Previous Sessions', will change each month and will show notes on what was discussed/presented at previous iPad sessions, ranging from the most recent session at the top to earlier sessions in sequence.
Clicking the browser back arrow on the second page will return you to this opening page and allow you to access the third page or link, 'Agenda for Next Session'. This reminds members of the agenda for the upcoming session.
