Recent studies show that learning a new language can help to slow the decline of brain function. Let's hope so! There are currently two groups studying Italian in a sociable, relaxed atmosphere of mutual help and support.
- Italian Conversation 1 meets on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of each month in Stokesley CCA from 10-12am (contact Sue Pearce). Members of this group vary from relatively new to more experienced Italian speakers, but the aim is for everyone to contribute and gain confidence in speaking. From January 2018 the group has been successfully run as a co-operative venture by group members. As a rule one member takes overall responsibility while everyone plans something to contribute, usually on a previously agreed topic. A more general discussion follows. Other activities e.g. listening, grammar exercises, quizzes, games etc. may be added for variety.
- Italian Conversation 2 meets on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month in members' homes from 9.30-11.30am (contact Sue Pearce). This group set out as complete beginners in 2014. From January 2018 it has been run cooperatively by the group members, and also focuses on conversation.
