Theatre & Concert

Stokesley U3A’s Theatre Group was started back in 2004 since when groups of members have attended over one hundred shows, plays, ballets and concerts at theatres/concert halls from Newcastle to Leeds, Richmond to Scarborough.
PLEASE NOTE THAT IF YOU WANT TO JOIN VISITS OF THE THEATRE AND CONCERT GROUP YOU MUST BE A MEMBER OF u3a FOR INSURANCE REASONS.
The AIM of the group is
1. To enable members to attend theatres further afield, where they may no longer wish to drive, by providing transport for a group to the venue.
2. To take advantage of group early bookings and discounts.
3. To introduce members to new plays and events recommended by other members.
4. To enable members to go on their own and still be amongst friends.
5. To keep members informed of some events locally that may be of interest
THEATRE 2023
This year has so far included 3 trips all at the Theatre Royal Newcastle - firstly to ‘Titanic the Musical’ ; a party of 44 members went to see Matthew Bourne’s ballet Sleeping Beauty ; and in July a much smaller number are ‘braving’ the apparently exciting National Theatre’s production of ‘The Ocean at the end of the Lane’!
In 2024 there are tickets on hold for ‘Life of Pi’ on January 25th and also Matthew Bourne’s ballet ‘Edward Scissorhands’ on April 4th. Booking information later this year.
CONCERTS
TEESSIDE MUSIC SOCIETY will be starting their season of 6 chamber concerts starting on Sunday 8th October by world class musicians. All concerts are held on Sundays in the comfort and excellent acoustic of Stokesley Methodist Church. For details see the Teesside Music Society website.
FILMS
Would anyone be interested in a group arranging to meet and go to some film showings especially of Live Screenings, opera, concerts, art films at Showcase Cinema in Teesside Park. Parking is easy and plentiful, seats are luxurious and we could maybe meet after the show over coffee to talk about the film ( depending of course on timing!)
Any other ideas or other theatre productions you may be interested in please let me know.
PLEASE LET THE GROUP COORDINATOR KNOW IF YOU WOULD BE INTERESTED IN ANY OF THESE SHOWS TO ASSESS FEASIBILITY OF THERE BEING NUMBERS TO ORGANISE A COACH.
AFTER 18 YEARS OF ORGANISING TRIPS FOR U3A YOUR GROUP FACILITATOR NEEDS SOMEONE (OR SEVERAL MEMBERS) TO SHARE /TAKE OVER THE ROLE!!
SO IF YOU WOULD BE INTERESTED IN OTHER THEATRE OR CONCERTS AND WOULD BE PREPARED TO ACT AS LEADER ON THE DAY I WOULD BE VERY HAPPY TO HELP YOU ORGANISE TICKETS AND COACH.
