Science Group via Zoom
Science Group meetings are normally held in the Brunton Room of the Town Hall starting at 14:00 on the 4th Wednesday of each month, but with Covid we have started Zoom meetings.
I have created a list of those who have indicated that they are interested in attending via Zoom. I am not sending out messages to anyone not on this list. Let me know if you want to be added.
This group is for anyone with an interest in science - whether or not they have a scientific background. Don’t worry if you haven’t had a scientific education - or if it was a long time ago - the only requirement is an interest in learning about science and technology issues which affect us all in our daily lives.
The aim is to discuss topics in a way that the “experts” can help the “non-experts” to understand the issues. Many of the most interesting and searching questions come from the non-scientists.
One of the group usually leads the discussion (or sometimes we use a suitable DVD) for 40 to 50 minutes then we have a question and (hopefully !) answers session. The topics for the next few months are listed below. We hope to add more shortly:
Tuesday 26th January 2021, 7pm Irish Archeology, Phil Brown
Tuesday 23rd February, 2021, Railways, Stephen Rabone
Tuesday 23rd March 2021, 7pm, Sleep, Harry Gribbin (Guisborough U3A)
Tuesday 27 April 2021, 7pm TBA
Tuesday 25 May 2021, 7pm, Light Detection and Ranging (Lidar) and its use it archaeological research by the North York Moors Park Authority, Martin Sutton
Tuesday 22nd June 2021, Microprocessors, Roger Strachan
If you have any other topics you would like to discuss then please contact the group leader, Peter Atkinson, and we will try to include them in future meetings.
