Welcome to Stevenage U3A

Stevenage U3A has ceased al activities due to current health situation. All members will be contacted when we are ‘up and running’ till then: stay well – stay safe and follow the guidance. Keep checking the website for latest news, hopefully good news soon.

I would like to share with you the following which was sent to me by Barbara Cordina the Chair of Herts Network Group of U3As It seems to fit the occasion really well.

At this difficult time, mend a quarrel.
Seek out a forgotten friend.
Dismiss suspicion, and replace it with trust.
Write a love letter. Share some treasure.
Give a soft answer. Encourage youth.
Manifest your loyalty in word and deed.
Keep a promise. Find the time.
Forgo a grudge. Forgive an enemy.
Listen. Apologise if you were wrong. Try to understand.
Flout envy. Examine your demands on others.
Think first of someone else. Appreciate.
Be kind; be gentle. Laugh a little. Laugh a little more.
Deserve confidence. Take up arms against malice.
Decry complacency. Express your gratitude.
Welcome a stranger.
Gladden the heart of a child.
Take pleasure in the beauty and wonder of the earth.

Background#

The University of the Third Age (U3A) is an international organisation which caters for those men and women who are not in full-time employment. There are no entry requirements, no examinations, and no qualifications are awarded. Stevenage U3A was amongst the first to be set up.

There are 1000 U3As, with more than 400,000 thousand members in the United Kingdom, each U3A being independent and having its own constitution. All U3As are self financing. However, there are regional and national umbrella organisations, to assist in maintaining the common purpose of continuing education.
