Our Garden Group now has over 20 members and we hope that the increased numbers will add to the options we can provide for the members in a larger venue. Our year is made up of two 'seasons' - Before Christmas and After Christmas. The reason for this is practical because in the autumn gardeners are winding down for the winter months and there is not much to be done outside.
Before Christmas we have a plant and seed swap. This is an ideal way to pass on plants and seeds without paying out money and also to talk about the successes, and failures, of last season.
Our new year begins in February. It is still too cold and dark to venture out, and our indoor meeting has included DVDs of gardening methods and plans for the new season. We aim to be instructive as well as enjoy exchanging horticultural views and experiences!
The spring and summer months are spent visiting local gardens and also venturing further afield to larger well-known gardens and to garden and plant centres. At the end of the summer we have a planning meeting when everyone makes suggestions and helps form the new programme for the following year.
U3A Stanway members wishing to know the current summer programme or to express an interest in joining the group can use the Bluebird contact button at the side of the page to send a message to the Group Leader.
This group meets at around 2.15pm on the first Friday of each month, except December and January, unless we have arranged a preliminary meal, which necessitates an earlier start.
