Talks & Tours
Lecture Meetings All members of the U3A are welcome to attend our Lecture Meetings, which feature a variety of speakers. Meetings are held on the second Friday of each month (no meeting in August) in Stanway Village Hall, Villa Road, Stanway starting at 2.15pm. Entrance and refreshments are free. The programme of speakers is advertised in the current Brochure, the February newsletter and in Dates for your Diary below. Alternative parking: The Evangelical Church on Chapel Road has kindly allowed us to park in their car park on Lecture days. Stanway U3A members also have access to Colchester U3A monthly talks, but do take your membership card with you. Use the link to Colchester U3A talks in the side panel.
Mini-Lecture Meetings Occasional meetings are held in much smaller local venues and are advertised at the monthly Lecture Meetings, in Newsletters and in Dates for your Diary below. Entrance is free, refreshments are not provided.
All Around the Town These events go to local places of interest, usually with a guide and privileged access. These trips are advertised at the monthly Lecture Meetings, in the Newsletters and in Dates for your Diary below.
Trips and Tours These trips go further afield and can be just for the day, or sometimes a three or four day mini-break. They are advertised at the monthly Lecture Meetings, in the Newsletters and in Dates for your Diary below.

New Members and Coffee Socials These social occasions are arranged throughout the year to provide an opportunity for all Stanway U3A members to meet informally. They are advertised at the monthly Lecture Meetings, in the Newsletter and on the Noticeboard of the Welcome page on the website. All members are very welcome to attend. Please check Newsletter for exact dates, times and venues.
Group Leaders Business Buffet Once a year in August there is a ‘Thank You’ event for all Stanway U3A Group Leaders.

|Fri Mar 22nd||Meeting||Tea and Taster - at Tollgate Hall (to the right of Stanway Village Hall - by the pitches) Villa Road.|
As promised, we have arranged a second Tea & Taster with the chance to enjoy numerous activities. Learn to knit, learn to crochet, try acrylic painting, discussion and chat groups plus lots of board and card games.
Doors open at 1.15pm. Our afternoon will start promptly at 1.30pm when Ashley Slater will give us a talk about the work of REMAP. Remap is a UK charity with skilled volunteers who custom make equipment for disabled people, helping them achieve independence and a better quality of life by designing and making equipment for their individual needs.
Please join us for another informative and very sociable afternoon. Tea and coffee on tap!
|Thu Mar 28th||Outing||Brick Lane, Music Hall Matinee Performance and Afternoon Tea An afternoon of Old Tyme Music Hall entertainment to lift the spirits. The humour will be risqué in the best musical hall tradition. Including afternoon tea with sandwiches, pastries and tea/coffee.|
Cost: £49 each including coach, show, afternoon tea and driver tip. Booking Form under Links at the side of this page. Open to Non-Stanway U3A members from 1 November. Booking closes 15 December. One place available.
|Thu Apr 11th||Outing||Visit to Christchurch Mansion, Soane Street, Ipswich. Meet in the Great Hall for the start of the tour at 2pm which lasts about an hour and tells the history of the house, the story of the three families who once lived there and highlights some of the important collections on display. There is no lift at the Mansion so anyone who cannot climb the stairs will be confined to the ground floor. The tea room is open from 10am to 4pm. Details and booking form is in the March Newsletter. Cost £4 to be paid, last day for booking 1 April.|
|Thu Apr 11th||Study Day||U3A North East Essex Cluster: Third workshop Study Day|
Following successful Study Days held in 2016 and 2017, the Chairmen of the local U3As have agreed that the next study day will take place on Thursday 11th April 2019 at The Gilberd School, Colchester. There are still some places available in a number of workshops, so if you are interested in taking part, please get in touch.

|Wed May 1st||Outing||Trip to Windsor Castle first day trip of 2019, the largest and oldest inhabited castle in Europe. We aim to arrive in Windsor at 11am. The Queen's favourite weekend home was founded by William the Conquer. Our ticket will also allow us to visit the 15th century St Georges Chapel, in the grounds of the castle. There are no refreshments on site but there are a number of cafes close to the entrance. The trip is now full but if you wish to be added to the Standby List please let Doreen know asap!|
|Thu May 16th||Outing||Visit to Bawdsey Radar, Bawdsey, Suffolk This unique museum tells the story of the "Invention that Changed the World". It reveals how scientists, engineers and technicians came together at Bawdsey in the 1930s in total secrecy to prove that radio waves could locate aeroplanes, ships and other targets. Details and booking form is in the March Newsletter. Cost £6 to be paid, last day for booking 1 May.|
