When I joined U3A I pondered on what skills I had that might be of interest to my fellow members. I decided that may be my years of practice in martial arts could be put to use.
Karate practice is beneficial to all age groups by the use of simple body mechanics. Overall fitness and stamina can be improved, it stimulates the mind and senses and promotes a feeling of wellbeing. In our two hour sessions so far we have covered basic techniques and learned the practical aspects of them. It’s a learning curve for me as well as I have to change my teaching methods to cater for mature students. The main thing is it’s fun! I conduct my sessions with a sense of humour and mutual respect, the main thing is to enjoy the movement. Sessions are not overly strenuous, we stop for tea and there is room for discussion and putting the world to rights. To contact me by email, please use the Carrier Pigeon logo on the top right corner.
