The Group Leader, Bob Bassett, can be contacted via the link at the top right of this page.
This group has now been split into two sessions. After receiving a number of enquiries from people who didn't feel that their French was good enough to participate in the open conversations, the group leader has formed a second group with the aim of developing French conversation skills. This second group meets immediately after the original conversation group. See below for times.
Group 1 - French Conversation
(Regrettably this group if now full. I will be pleased to add anybody interested to a waiting list)
Group members should ideally meet level A2 French as defined by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR): e.g.
An ability to deal with simple, straightforward information and begin to express oneself in familiar contexts.
That's to say you can take part in a routine conversation on simple predictable topics.
At each meeting the group listens to a short audio or video recording of a native French speaker on a previously notified topic, after which there is an open discussion where members give opinions and share experiences relating to the subject matter. Other more general subject matter is also discussed. The meeting is conducted entirely in French.
Group 2 - Developing French conversation skills
In this group we are working through a structured course developing basic conversation skills, with support to assist with vocabulary and grammar. The meetings are conducted in both French and English as necessary to explain learning points.
People can chose to attend both groups should they wish.
There is a small charge for hire of the room payable at the commencement of each term.
We meet at St Ives Library, Meeting Room 1
The 2nd and 4th Monday of each month.
Group 1 session - 1.30 to 2.45 pm.
