2023/24
We are now into our third year looking at various aspects of both the history and the heritage of St Helens and the surrounding areas. Our members enjoy discussions, short presentations, workshops and local visits. Our program depends on the ideas and interests of the group - the input of every member of the Group is valued.
Our project
In some of our sessions this year have focussed on Factory Row, a surviving example of worker’s housing in Ravenhead. We have looked at the Plate Glass works behind Factory Row including its managers and workers, the families who lived in Factory Row, schools, churches and recreation in the area in an attempt to better understand the development of the area,
If you have connections to factory Row we would love to hear from you. contact us via the envelope link on the page.
Our Visits
January - Victoria Brokenshire from St Helens Archives talked to us at Eccleston Library about the types of records they hold, how to access them through the online catalog and by arranging a visit.

March - A guided walk around the Ravenhead area.
May - A tour of St Helens Cemetery.
February Meeting
we had a real treat as 4 members of the Muccky MountainS Morris shared some of their history and heritage with the group. We heard a little about the history of Morris dancing and their 'side'or group in St helens. They were formed in 1989 and perform at lots of local events and other events around the country. We had an opportunity to look at their scrapbooks which detail these events (some wonderful photographs) which are now being deposited in the Archives and will be digitised in due course. They also demonstrated their skills with an enthusiastic dance and explained the traditions of their 'tatter coats' and hats.
Thank you Norma, Dennis, Anna and Phil for a wonderful morning.
