Trip to Ireland

Well after many emails to Ireland and very little response Keith & I decided to contact local coach companies. Williams Coaches came back with a quote to match the trip that we had suggested to them. At the moment the following is our suggestion:

The trip would leave St Austell on the 9th October 2020. The ferry in Pembroke sails at 14.46 so we would need to be at the port by 13.46. This would mean that we would have to leave St Austell at around 5.00 am

A 10 night trip taking in an overnight at Wexford
- 2 nights in Dublin with at least a half day guided tour of Dublin.
- 2 nights in Belfast including a half day tour of Belfast and a visit to the Titanic Museum.
- 2 nights in Derry or Letterkenny including a stop on the way to the Giants Causeway; a half day guided tour of Derry.
- 2 nights in Galway including a visit to Glenveagh National Park and a day out visiting Westport and Galway.
- back to Wexford via the Cliffs of Moher for another overnight stop;
- on day11 - 19 October ferry to Pembroke and home.

The cost for Dinner Bed & Breakfast is £1099 per person in twin/double rooms.

We have provisionally booked - 5 single rooms( at a supplement of £253);
- 14 twins;
- 4 doubles;

Williams have always included a travel insurance free to travellers but any medical issues a person has will need to be discussed with the insurance company they use to discover whether a person needs to pay a supplement. You may have your own travel insurance so you can decline Williams offering but everyone needs to have insurance booked to cover the trip.

When we know numbers and have finalised where we visit there may be an extra small supplement to cover entry fees to any extra sites .

We need at least 30+ people to run the trip, so if you wish to commit to the trip we need to know by email as soon as possible and then we can collect a deposit of £100 per person by mid February either at the coffee morning / enrolment on the 31 January or the meeting on the 6 February.

Over the past 12 years or so we have had marvellous times travelling with our U3A friends.

We have been as far away as Peru. In Europe; Sicily, France, Christmas Markets, Spain, Italy, Croatia and closer to home; Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Yorkshire.

2016 saw 6 off to Morocco, via Milan and Barcelona by train and flying back from Casablanca. Another 20+ of us went to Croatia end of September.

2017 a group of 20 of us went to Scotland. Flying to Edinburgh from Exeter and having stays/trips to Garve, Inverness, Tain, Isle of Skye, Oban, Glasgow, and we flew back to Exeter where our coach met us to bring us back to St Austell.

2018 and we went off to North Cyprus (Turkish part) going later in the year so not too hot.

2019 and we went to Portugal, a cultural tour The Pousades of Portugal you can see on Mercury Holidays website.

2020 we are going to Ireland.

Our meetings are when necessary, but always announced at the monthly meetings.

We are happy for you to come to a Coffee Morning or one main Monthly meeting and to attend one individual group event before deciding whether to join St Austell U3A.
