Sperrin

Welcome to Sperrin u3a

If you are no longer in full-time employment and want to take up some new activities, you are more than welcome to join us. Staying active, socialising and learning something new is the perfect recipe for people wanting to enjoy life to the full.

March 2022 meeting
The u3a is for people who are retired or semi-retired. It is an International organisation with 24 separate u3as in Northern Ireland alone. The basic idea is that people meet together to share ideas, develop new interests, stay active and make new friends.

No qualifications are required to join. While most members are 50+, there are no age restrictions. While learning is optional, having fun is mandatory! Hence our mantra — learn, laugh, live.

What we do
The u3a is very much a self-help organisation. There are no paid staff and activities are organised by members, for members. Each u3a is different with members themselves deciding what to do.

Sperrin u3a was formed in 2003, with membership coming mainly from the area between the Sperrin Mountains and Lough Neagh. Members are drawn from Bellaghy, Castledawson, Cookstown, Desertmartin, Draperstown, Maghera, Magherafelt, Moneymore, Randalstown, Tobermore, Toome, and surrounding areas.

At our monthly meetings, held at 2:00 pm on the second Tuesday of each month (except July and August) all our members meet together. We invite a different guest speaker to the meeting each month and we do our best to ensure the topics are diverse and interesting. There is also an opportunity to meet and socialise with other members. Click on the Diary tab at top of page to view forthcoming meetings and other activities.

-----
Sperrin u3a also has a number of 'special interest' groups which meet weekly, fortnightly or monthly. Outings are also arranged to the theatre, concerts, the cinema and other places of interest. Members are free to choose which groups to join. Click on the Groups tab at the top of this page to view a list of current groups. New groups can be formed at any time, once there is sufficient interest in a particular activity or subject.
