We meet on the third Tuesday of each month at 30 Fairholme Road, Ashford, at 2.30 p.m. Current membership numbers 16, and so the group is technically full. Our members are drawn by a love of poetry, often kindled from an early age, and by a desire to expand our experience of poetry of all eras and styles. So far the range is from 600 B.C. (Sappho) to 2014.
We explore a set monthly theme and members are encouraged to dig around in their anthologies, at the library or elsewhere, and bring three or four poems that conform to the set theme. In future months we will cover Shakespeare, Nonsense and humour, Love poetry, War poetry, and Christmas, these last for November and December respectively.
I would emphasise that it is an "enjoyment" group, which is to say it is neither a creative writing group (all offerings have to have been published), but also it is not an academic group. Our object is to enjoy the work that each member brings, and each to broaden the enjoyment of the others for verse.
