American Square Dancing**
The Square Dancing Group is a Joint Group with members from Spelthorne and Spelthorne K2.
The January 2015 issue of the 'U3A SOURCES MAGAZINE' contained an article giving further information about us and square dancing.
12 of our members in the 'Recycled Teenagers Square Dance Club' have graduated in MAINSTREAM and with their diplomas and club badges are able to dance at Square Dance Clubs in any country (called in English everywhere). All 12 are learning PLUS (higher level) and 8 more of the dancers are enjoying improving their expertise at another local club.
Square Dancing is done at a normal walking pace with nothing more than a 4 step swing in a ballroom hold. There is no skipping or vigorous swinging. It aims to be fun set to music.
There are generally vacancies all through the year, however, there are no vacancies at the moment. For absolute beginners it is during January when new classes begin. It is usually (but not at the moment) possible for anyone with some square dance/barn or folk dance experience to start during the year. We welcome anyone wishing to know what square dancing is all about, to visit us on a Wednesday afternoon to watch, listen and speak to our friendly members who enjoy and have much fun square dancing.
We dance every Wednesday afternoon from 13:30 - 15:30 with a short tea/coffee break half-way through.
The session fee is £3.00.
The venue is ‘the Methodist Church Hall’, Edinburgh Drive, Junction with Elizabeth Avenue, Laleham. TW18 1PH
The Club is registered with the British Association of American Square Dance Clubs (BAASDC).
The Group is currently full.
