This is a well established group of poetry lovers and is led by Joyce at her home in Ashford.
The programme is planned for a whole year ahead and uses ideas drawn from the members. A meeting may be based on a single poet or a group of poets or sometimes it is based on a theme. The members read their prepared poems appropriate to the subject and this often leads to a discussion.
As an example of meetings during the past year we have read through a large part of “Hiawatha”and studied poems by Walter de la Mare John Clare, William Shakespeare, Siegfried Sassoon and Wilfred Owen. We have read poems by the new Poet Laureate Carole Ann Duffy and compared them with poems by previous holders of the title. Themed sessions have included poems about spring and about children.
