FRENCH CONVERSATION (2)
This group meets weekly in term time and we loosely base the work we do on the bi-monthly magazine Rendez-Vous although not all the group purchase this. For the first few years we met in one member's house but then, in view of the shortage of tutors, it was decided that we should meet by rotation in each other's homes and that the person who hosts the meeting should also lead it.
This worked quite well but no tutors for U3A were forthcoming and we found that not much progress was being made although lots of fun was had! So now we start each session with some pronunciation practice using the tape which goes with the magazine. This is followed by French conversation, on whatever subject each member wants to discuss. After tea, we might use one of the articles from the magazine for reading, translation and discussion. Or we might use another anecdote photocopied by the host or play a French game - French Scrabble complete with its own dictionary and provided by a French friend from the town-twinning group is popular. We have watched French films and done some play reading.
Unfortunately because we meet in member's homes, we have to limit our numbers to 8 but from time to time we do have a vacancy.
