Welcome and News
Southport U3A - What is it? What does it do? Can I join?
We are part of a national organisation dedicated to the promotion of education, leisure and knowledge among people who have entered the “Third Age” of their life. Men and women with a lifetime of experience share their knowledge and passion for a whole range of activities and hobbies. It is open to anyone who is no longer in full time employment.
Currently, we have over 80 Activity, Leisure and Learning Groups covering a vast array of subjects – all run by members themselves using their own knowledge or expertise.
By using the tabs above you will be able to find out what we do.
To find out how to become a member, the benefits of becoming a member and how to get the best out of your membership have a look at our Membership page.
Southport U3A holds a General Meeting on the first Thursday of each month at 10:00 in Christ Church, Lord Street, Southport. It is open to all members and visitors and the format is to have group tables open and coffee served until 10:30 when the door will be closed.
The speaker will then start the formal part of the meeting and when finished the door will be opened again before the announcements begin. The tables may re-open after any group announcements have been completed.
Not all groups have a table at the meeting but those that don't can be contacted through their group page on this website using the tab above.
Details of upcoming monthly meetings and the invited speaker and subject are listed on the EVENTS page.
As we have now passed the grace period for membership renewal, any member who has not renewed will not be allowed to take part in group activities. All group leaders should be checking their group members to make sure they have renewed for this year.
If you have not renewed, and still wish to, then you can:
- do so in person at the Monthly meeting
- or click the link to a MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL FORM which you can print at home and send to the Membership Secretary
- or send your expired Orange card instead
In either of the last two cases please enclose a cheque for £10 and a Stamped Addressed Envelope to: Southport U3A, 3 The Paddock, Southport, PR8 3PT.

WINE APPRECIATION GROUP 1
The leader of this group has decided not to continue with the role which means the group is unable to hold any further meetings. If anyone would like to take over as leader so the group can continue please email the Activities co-ordinator.
Several Smartphone Gurus who are willing to assist at a Smartphone Surgery. More homes willing to host Smartphone Surgeries. These can be in small groups to suit the host.

This is another new group looking for members to join it.
Want to be able to make computers do things like your grandchildren do? This is the group to join!
ROCK MUSIC GROUP
There is a potential new music group to be formed.
Gavin Jones would be really keen to start a group consisting of U3A musicians that wanted to meet up regularly and play covers of classic 1970's rock. He'd be looking for players of electric guitar, bass guitar, drums, keyboards as well as vocalists.
Gavin has a small rehearsal space that the group could use at the top of his house and access to amplifiers, keyboards and drums.
He is offering to create a Spotify playlist that would illustrate the types of songs that the group could try so that potential members could 'look before they leap' as it were.
So come on you silver rockers! Contact the Rock Music Group Leader if you're interested.
This group is now up and running and seeking new members.
Contrary to some rumours circulating, the group has seven U3A players... still looking for more golfers!
WALKING FOR LEISURE
This group has been closed by its leader. We are not looking for a replacement leader.
Anyone interested in learning/playing this banjo/ukulele four-stringed instrument? Judith Abbott is looking for members to help form a new group. Click the link to email the Banjolele group leader for more information.
TAI CHI 4
This group is seeking extra members. Click on the link above for more details of this group.
We now have over twenty potential members for this group and still no-one has volunteered to lead it. This is such a shame!
The group was ready to begin on 10 January. Click the link above for details. Anyone willing to undertake the not too arduous task of leading the group should click the link to contact the Activities co-ordinator. Please bear in mind that leading the group means co-ordinating events and not teaching as there is a qualified instructor who will do that. You will get plenty of support when needed from the Yoga 1 leader who in turn has found excellent support and guidance from the Activities co-ordinator. Go on someone, give it a go!
