Ukulele
The three performing groups came about purely due to popularity and a constant waiting list situation!
The first group to form was ‘UKE3A’ or Ukulele 1. This was formed by Sue Corcoran in October 2014 comprising a few experienced players (who did the teaching), the rest being beginners. (Total approx. 30).
With a waiting list, six months later Ukulele 2 was formed by John Andrews. They later changed the performing name of their group to The Sandon Strummers. (Also, total approx. 30)
Still a waiting list existed, so Ukulele 3 was formed by Maria Forsyth. (Total approx. 30)

Day of meeting | Tuesday |
Time | 10:15 - 12:15 |
Performing name | UKE3A |
This group does not run a beginners group. However, if you are an intermediate player and are willing to sing as well as play, you are welcome to come along and see how you like the set-up. Songs cover many decades and the aim is to keep gradually raising the level of difficulty and standard of performing. We occasionally perform locally to various organisations.
There is no charge, but you are expected to print off your own music copies as supplied by email.
This group has been so successful and popular that it isn't currently able to take on new members.
Day of meeting | Monday |
Time | 10:00 - 12:00 |
Performing name | UKE2 SOUTHPORT SANDON STRUMMERS |
We play and sing a variety of songs from the 1920’s through to hits of the 60’s 70’s 80’s 90’s, ballads, Irish music and some George Formby numbers. We have a repertoire of over 100 songs. We do public performances (gigs) for charity and visit local nursing homes, clubs etc, but mostly we play to amuse ourselves.
To become a member, you would have to be able to play at a reasonable level.
We are welcoming new players who have previous experience of playing the ukulele.

Ukulele 2 Beginners’ Programme (same venue and times) commences twice a year to encourage new members.
The current group is full, but we will be starting another in September.
Day of meeting | Monday |
Time | 1:00 - 3:00 |
Performing name | THE UKE-A-TEERS |
This is designed as a ‘transitional group’ – three sections in one group – Beginners, Intermediate, Performance.
The Beginners section is usually for a six-month period, thus allowing people to progress through the different sections.
This process will then create space for new beginner members.
