Walking Group 2 is for members who like a brisk walk in the local countryside of about 7 to 10 miles. We travel to and from the walks using public transport, ie buses, local trains and ferries, so in effect we can have a really good day out for the price of a coffee when we call at a cafe at the beginning or end of the walk - or both!!
Our walks are varied, along river or canal banks, across fields, well marked paths and the occasional hillside. We walk within an approximate 30 mile radius of Southport, which covers the Wirral Peninsula, Longridge, Parbold, Rivington, Ormskirk and many places in between.
The walks are every other Saturday and Wednesday throughout the year, rain, hail or snow, and plough through many a muddy field, so it is essential that all participants have good waterproof walking gear.
We are a good mixed crowd of like minded people who enjoy a great day out and have many a laugh (which is a great tonic), and don't mind having a picnic in not ideal conditions at times.
Occasionally, a place of interest is incorporated in the walk, for example we have visited Ince Blundell Hall, the workings of The Mersey Tunnel, the Crypt of The Metropolitan Cathedral and The St Helen's Glass Museum.
At present membership of Walking Group 2 is closed as we have the maximum number of members.
