All coach trips are generally held on Saturdays (unless otherwise stated). They commence at 8.30am and will depart from your destination at approximately 4.30pm. We always aim to be back in Southport by 6.00pm.

All coach trips are open to all members and they run each month as from March to December each year. We use either a 53 or 57 seater coach. Should an outward journey take 2 hours or more then a short comfort stop will be made on route.

The meeting point for all trips will be at the site of the former tourist information centre at the corner of Eastbank Street/Lord Street (in front of Southport library)

On the return journey back to Southport there will be a limited number of drop off points in addition to the former tourist information site where you boarded the coach. The drop off points will be announced on each individual trip whilst on the return journey.

It is essential that all passengers carry their membership card with them at all times whilst out on a coach trip and it is important to have the emergency contact details completed on the reverse side of this card.

An emergency mobile phone number will be provided should you wish to contact the group leaders whilst on your day out. Please note this number is for emergency use only whilst out on your coach trip.

As coach trips have proved to be very popular and it is essential to pay for your trip at the time of booking at monthly meetings. In addition, individual membership numbers is required along with your contact details. Once a trip is fully booked a waiting list system is put into operation and every effort is made to resell tickets should someone cancel a booking. A refund can only be given should a ticket be re-sold. Please note that all trips include a tip for the driver and any appropriate parking fees.

On very rare occasions it may be necessary to change a destination at short notice due to adverse weather conditions. Passenger safety is paramount and we will not travel to locations when there is clear advice not to travel in certain areas. Every effort will be made to complete an itinerary.

Discover the history of Marks and Spencer

Unfortunately this coach trip has been cancelled. We have received the following notification from the M&S Archive:

”We regret that, as a precautionary measure for the wellbeing of our visitors and colleagues, the M&S Company Archive will have to cancel your upcoming group visit booking on the 22nd April”

Arrangements will be made to offer a refund to all those people who have booked for this trip.

This outing is being arranged by the coach trip group on behalf of the Local History Group.

From the clothes we wear to the food we eat, the ‘Marks in Time Exhibition’ in Leeds showcases a unique collection at the M&S Company Archive.. The exhibition traces the development of high street favourite M&S from 1884 and its early days as a Penny Bazaar right up to the present day.

Our visit will include:

  • a guided tour of the exhibition. This features unique artefacts, historic garments, films and photographs from the Archive
  • an expert talk from an Archivist on ‘Dressed in time: A history of fashion at M&S’
  • a free self-service facility for tea/coffee

Please note this visit to the archive will be made in two groups - one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Therefore some free time will be available to explore Leeds when not on the tour. For instance you can take a self guided heritage trail from the exhibition to Kirkgate Market, visiting sites of interest on the way. Finishing your tour at the M&S Heritage stall, close to the site of the very first Penny Bazaar.

Bookings will commence at the meeting in February at the coach trips desk - the cost is £12 per person which includes coach travel, drivers tip and parking.

This coach trip is now fully booked and a waiting list is in operation.
