Writing For Fun
We meet on the fourth Thursday in the month at 1.30 p.m. Group Leader is Pete Norman.
This popular group is lead by novelist and former police officer Pete Norman.
Sometimes we take a look inside ourselves and question a few simple words. Words like: ‘Writing’, ‘for’ and ‘fun’. The first two are fairly straightforward, but the third?
We have fun writing our stories each month and we have fun sharing them with the other members of the group, but do the stories themselves have to be fun? or light-hearted? or fluffy? No they don’t.
Of course we can each do fluffy and light-hearted, but we can also do gritty and grim (in spades!)
The story titles that are imposed upon us each month trigger a completely different thought pattern in each and every one of us and with twelve in the group we end up with twelve completely different takes on the same title.
‘Vengeance’, ‘Judgement’ and ‘Breakout’ have been no exception. In some strange and unintended way the titles seem to flow into each other in a natural sequence and some of our members did just that, carrying the story through the three titles.
These are not fluffy titles by any means and some of the stories were powerful, solid and emotional.
Our group is very talented and the quality of their work is getting progressively better as we listen to the stories and pick up hints and tips from the other members.
Believe me, folks, it doesn’t get any better than this and I am proud to be a part of it.
