Science for all
The 'Science for all' Group meets in different members' houses. Members are enthusiastic and ready to learn, so the meetings are for anyone interested in science, whatever their background! WE CURRENTLY HAVE VACANCIES FOR A FEW NEW MEMBERS!
This year members have given talks on The Aurora Borealis, the life and work of Gregor Mendel (with a little diversion about the genetics of Muggles and Wizards!) the evolution of Man and Mendeleev and the Periodic table. Currently we are an intimate group of just six members, but like the Universe, looking to expand! The format of the meetings is firstly a discussion of relevant articles from newspapers and magazines, followed by viewing one or two of the half hour lectures in the “Great Courses” series entitled A New History of Life, which spans the time from the big bang to the present – we frequently stop the video to discuss what we have seen.
According to a recent survey 24% of people were put off science at school. Whether you are one of that 24% or have a PhD in Quantum Mechanics, you can be sure of a warm welcome from our group!
We meet once a month, usually on a Monday afternoon, – the actual date is fixed by discussion at the previous meeting; we meet in the houses of the two leaders and would very much welcome new members. No science background is needed – don't stay one of the 24%, reverse it! i.e. as explained in Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy......42, the answer to life, the universe and everything.
Come and join us – tea and biscuits included.
