To whet your appetite, I thought it would be a good idea if I provided some information about the things we do and to answer some frequently asked questions:
1) What's it all about?
It's about learning how to taste and appreciate the qualities of wine. Understanding why wines are different and broadening your experience by tasting wines you might not normally buy.
2) What equipment do I need?
You will need at least 4 wine glasses. They need to be all the same, made of clear glass and tulip shaped. The pub goblet wine glass is not appropriate. They do not have to be expensive and if you buy good ones you can use them on the table at home.
Other things you could consider are: a cloth or paper tissues, some water biscuits (optional) or similar to clear your palette, pen/pencil to make notes (it's no good tasting the best wine in the world and not being able to write its name down!)
3) How much will we be drinking?
This is a good question particularly for drivers but that's up to the group. I would recommend that we share 4 bottles at a meeting between 16. This means that everyone will have a portion equivalent to about a double measure of spirit per bottle. This means everyone will have about a glass of wine per session.
4) How much will it cost me?
Again this will depend on the group, however if we start at £3 per person a session it can be adjusted as we go along.
5) How often will we meet?
We meet on the Third Friday in the month - 2:00pm to 4:00pm
6) Where will we meet?
Meetings are generally held at my house. I will review this if the numbers get too great to sensibly hold them there.
