Classical Music Appreciation
Are you a classical music lover? If so why not share your enthusiasm in the Classical Music Appreciation Group? We are necessarily a small, friendly, group as we meet in each other’s homes for a couple of hours twice a month.
This is a self-help group, with no expert leader and any level of expertise will be made welcome. The only qualification needed is that you are prepared to listen with an open mind to other people’s choices and perhaps share some of yours. You can however join as a Listening Member without any obligation to host meetings or put on a programme though most of us find we want to do so after listening to other people’s choices for a while.
The programme presenters take it in turns to put on a two-hour programme (which includes a coffee break) and play music of their own choice trying to include something the others may not have heard and, if possible, supply a little background on the music chosen such as when it was composed, by whom and who is performing.
We have been using this format for many years now and find that we have learnt a great deal from other people's choices and have considerably expanded our own knowledge and breadth of interest and, just as important, had a lot of fun in the process.
We meet at 10.00 am on the second and fourth Monday of the month. We also organise occasional outings to concerts.
