Local Research Projects
Local Research Projects Group
Would you like to take part in a team effort researching a large scale project about the local area which could be on a topic such as working in the local oil refineries, going to local schools, wartime Thurrock, prisoner of war and transit camps or the 1953 flood? There will be many other ideas for projects members will have. We will also discuss what methods of research we can use and what sources of information we can tap into.
The information we collect will be displayed for members and collected together in a pack or possibly in a publication.
A recent suggestion has been childhood memories including games and activities. Any other suggestions will be welcomed. (Although Local is in the title of the group we can collect memories from members or others coming from other areas and could do comparisons.)
For our first project we are investigating the changes and growth of Stanford-le-Hope from 1950, including shops, industry, financial services, pubs, churches, transport and entertainment.
As the research phase of our project is coming to a close, we need to look at the wide range of information we have, discuss the next steps and the end goal.
If you are interested in taking part in such a project doing some research and learning and working out how to collect the information effectively contact Sue Green email Sue Green OR Diane Wallace email Diane Wallace either at a General Meeting or by email.
