Family History
UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE CLOSED TO NEW MEMBERS
Our Family History Group welcomes both beginners and more experienced researchers. We hope to all learn together through an informal meeting once a month where we pick a theme to discuss, share stories and information and talk through brick walls.
The Family History Group meets on the 3rd Wednesday of the month 2:00pm - 4:00pm at the Corringham Evangelical Church Hall, 45 Fobbing Road, Corringham, SS17 9BN (Just past the Fire Station and Cemetery on the same side of the road). Sessions cost £1 with tea/coffee. Any surplus from monies collected is used to arrange speakers on a subject voted on by all members. We usually have two speakers a year which is open to all members of our U3A.
If you have never tried researching your family tree and want to have look at how easy it is before committing to joining the group, get in touch and we will organise a one to one session with you to get you started. All you need for a good starting point is details of a relative who could be found on the 1911 census.
If you are a complete beginner or have come up against a brick wall in your research or just want to know which websites to look at, use the opportunity to get some one to one help. We all learn from each other. FindMyPast is free to look at in some libraries but unfortunately non in Thurrock.
